The Pony and The Man

Rejoice in a new appreciation for nature with Ingrid Moberger Sanborn's delightful debut, The Pony and the Man.

Perfectly capturing the charm and beauty of farm life, this short story tells the tale of Ned, an elderly New England farmer who wants nothing more than to live and work on the land that his family has owned for generations.

Although his wife has passed away and his adult children all live in the city, Ned gets assistance from Sally and Pete, two college students who have helped out on the farm since they were children.

Tracing his day-to-day activities over the course of one year, this short story gives readers a glimpse of Ned's life on the farm-which includes spending time with his cat, Leo, and learning how to craft American Windsor chairs.

But something special happens: a black pony suddenly appears on the farm. Refusing to be penned, the pony nevertheless stays by Ned's side and soon becomes a vital part of the property's inner workings-reminding Ned exactly what made his farm so special to begin with.

Paired with the author's own pastel drawings, The Pony and the Man comes to vivid life before your eyes.
