Farewell to Capelburgh

This tenth and final volume of the "Capelburgh" series follows the previous book, "The Fall of Capelburgh". When circumstances make it necessary for George Crandall to retire from his position as Lord of Capelburgh in favour of Ranulf, his son, he has leisure to go on pilgrimage with his beloved wife, Margaret. First, though, the formalities of the succession must be arranged and for that a sixteen year old girl proves invaluable. Wandering around Mediaeval England is all very well in summer, but as winter draws on George finds his thoughts turning towards the comforts of Twenty-second Century home and so he returns to Lancaster, where he had Margaret embark on a new career as a popular public speaker. And then devastating tragedy strikes and George gives a frank account of his return to the Fourteenth Century with Margaret and her final journey to Jerusalem. What happened there will challenge your ethics, but whether you agree or disagree with what he did, pray for the soul of Margaret Crandall, Lady of Capelburgh - and pray also that you are never faced with so stark a choice.
