In 1959, a haphazard group of people board a passenger ship in Southampton, England bound for Sydney, Australia The story focuses around certain characters aboard the ship - their conflicts with each other and their friendships'. Also, how their lives dramatically change and how and where they ultimately end-up. There are Bikers, Doctors, Jehovah's Witnesses, an Occultist/Healer, a Stage Magician, various types of Bands, together with the Captain and Crew. The collection of souls is as varied as their reasons for travel. The Captain has his hands full, constantly intervening when personalities collide and froth, yet none more than Aleister McGregor's, a strange man with strange talents and an educated temper that lashes out with biting words and cold determination. He alienates almost everyone...something that could cost him, and everyone aboard, when the ship flounders in rough seas and takes damage near a small island populated with an aggressive people. The action is highly intense and something is always happening, which keeps the reader wondering what is going to happen next although it's always very different to what is expected. The story line is very different from any other. It's very funny in places yet rather sad as well, but overall, highly entertaining. Although the adventure is on the high seas, it also spills over onto land. The characters turn out much more than what they first appear to be. This book holds psychological overtones; whereby some readers may find inspiration to a greater or lesser degree. It's one of those books that you might want to go back and read again and again. The book has all the ingredients for a movie. It will grab your attention from the very first page and hold you in there until the end, but once you've finished reading it, you'll never forget it.
