Chance Desire Royal was a special sort of human being, he was fifteen years old and he was blind and autistic. His mother Claudine was a trying woman and she always tried to make a better life for her son. She also had other children; Charlotte, Charity, and Claudia. Chance attended a regular public school where the teacher discovered that he was a very promising person. That realization came out when one day, Chance was in the classroom and the teacher found him playing the piano just from listening to a song once. The teacher thought that Chance was no ordinary young man and that his talents should be broadened. She recommended that he be sent to the Louisiana School for the Blind where he would be better accommodated and taken care of. Chance's sister Claudia despised him and so did his other sister Charity. They thought that because he was blind and autistic, he was a nobody and that he would never amount to anything. They hated the fact that he was visibly given so much attention. They would taunt him and make him feel as if he really was, in the sister's words, a 'nothing child'. Charity's contempt for her little brother would sometimes turn into such a shouting match that the mother would have to separate the two siblings. Charity had a fianc? whose name was Carlos. Unknown to Charity, Carlos' sister Ashley was also blind and autistic. Ashley Simone Noreaga was a very special friend to Chance Royal. So special was this friendship that Chance and Ashley were inseparable. In fact the teacher paired them together all the time to do special assignments. This was an awesome friendship. When Charity finds out about Ashley, it will be a whirlwind for her and Carlos.
