My Growing Up Years

I'd much rather write fiction than to go back over eighty plus years looking for something worth putting down on paper about myself. After I started writing, I found my own life before marriage pretty dull and my personal want was to simply quit. But there were a couple of people who keep telling me I needed to do this, that it would give the generations coming along behind me a glimpse of what life-not just mine, but my generation-was like in the thirties and forties, the years which gilded my eighteen years of childhood So here goes-a few pages of my childhood memories as best I can remember them. Granted, they will be different than anything in the lives of those reading this, but it's the way things were back then, and for the most part I'm glad to have been a part of it. Things were slower-paced, people were friendlier and always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need. Making big money didn't seem the major concern; caring for your family with what you had and the grace of God was. This book is about my childhood from as early as I can remember, pulling bits and pieces from the past to the time I stepped into adult life, marrying my Prince Charming at the age of eighteen. In other words, my growing up years.
