Tribal Farmers of Surguja, Chhattishgarh: A Case Study on Sugarcane Farming

Majority of the sugarcane growers had medium level of knowledge regarding recommended sugarcane production technology. It was also observed that most of the respondents had medium level adoption of recommended sugarcane production technology. This indicates that the sugarcane growers were not aware about recommended sugarcane production technology and at the same time they were slow to adopt recommended sugarcane production technology. the sugarcane growers came under medium level of adoption category; they were not using recommended technology fully. It is necessary to convince the sugarcane growers with the help of various extension teaching method like kisan mela, exhibition, group discussion, film shows and organization of demonstrations on improved technologies of sugarcane crop in the villages with the help of extension agents, uses of information sources in time and contact with other developmental organizations for providing the facilities and proper guidance to the sugarcane growers for adoption of recommended sugarcane production technology.
