Alfred Thompson's whimsical book for "Aladdin II" is credit with moving the musical hall burlesque further in the direction of musical comedy. With a score by Herv?, founder of French operetta, who had come to London specialty to collaborate with Thompson, the musical was a hit at the Gaiety and a solid money maker. The production starred the Gaiety Theatre's principal boy Nellie Farren as Aladdin.
