Isherwood is the new boy in town, a well known British detective brought into the Los Angeles Police department's homicide squad to help get better results. Although Charley doesn't like the idea, he has no choice but to put up with it. Isherwood shows the squad what difference observation makes to how a potential crime scene is viewed, when asked to help by a member of the public who is worried for the safety of her sister.

When Madame Duclos employs Pascale Tourret to help her to save her daughter from a life of crime, the investigation takes Pascale from his home in the Lot region of France to the busy streets of Paris. There, he encounters the activities of the underworld and particularly of Maurice Gautier, a man with no scruples.

Deeply entrenched into the drug cartel, Gautier is producing bad methamphetamine that is hitting the streets of Paris with regularity and killing college kids. On top of that, his organization are also importing cocaine from Colombia. Piecing together the movements of cartel is complex and takes Pascal through the streets of Paris but he is aided by his old colleague from the police department, who is happy to supply him with information to help in the investigation.

With no witness protection program available, how will Pascale get witnesses? How will he overcome the constraints of French law and gain sufficient evidence to put Gautier away? The story follows the progress of his inquiry.

When the body of a child is found in Paris, Interpol involvement is resented by Inspector Le Fur, a proud French man who believes that the inquiry should be carried out on French soil. However, when Jobin explains to him the history behind the case

Le Fur is more accepting of the way the inquiry progresses. With child trafficking becoming more and more common, Interpol are involved in the case. Victims being under the age of 9 years old, concern is mounting as the killer leaves his calling card.

Can Jobin put the pieces together to solve the crimes? How do you go about an investigation that covers such a large geographical area? This story follows the inquiry that leads to social networking sites where initial contact appears to have been made by the murderer.
