Piano ABC's Level One PLUS: Beginning at the Beginning

Level One PLUS - An exciting addition to the Piano ABC's curriculum. Originally conceived as an extension and reinforcement of Level One for younger students, it soon became apparent that the creative pedagogical expansions and additions of several new musical concepts presented in Level One PLUS would prove to be beneficial to older beginning piano students as well. With a variety of pieces and exercises extending reading/writing/playing of Higher A and Higher B, and examples introducing the discipline of rhythmic practice before actually playing pieces, beginner piano students become more mature in understanding how to learn new pieces. Engaging studies in which students learn to analyze and compare melodic patterns and their repetitions or inversions stimulate interest in how melodies are created. Appealing and advancing piano beginner-level pieces afford more opportunities to coordinate playing with both hands. Students have been practicing these new pieces with zestful enthusiasm. Explanations and examples of different duet formats open the student's understanding regarding different ways that duets appear on the page. Lively and expressive teacher duet parts and even one duet flute part (could be played on violin) bring more interest and pleasure to duet playing. Additional ledger line reading practice in both pieces and check-ups further develops musical literacy, and the early introduction of several other important concepts at a level accessible to the novice make this a unique and valuable addition to the Piano ABC's curriculum. The diverse studies in Level One PLUS will further enhance beginning piano students' success and musical maturity as they advance toward Piano ABC's Level Two. 48 pages.
