Steven Stinnett doesn't grow up with a silver spoon in his mouth. An emotionally, mentally, and physically abusive stepfather makes life a nightmare at home, and his learning-disabled designation alienates Steve at school.

Thankfully, Steve's grandparents show him love-and the love of God-as a young child, giving him something to hold onto throughout the trials and storms to come.

And come they do. After struggling through school and the shame of riding the "short bus," Steve escapes the pain of his dysfunctional family to serve on an aircraft carrier in Vietnam. He survives the war and receives his honorable discharge from the Navy only to find himself searching for a meaningful life back at home after the war.

Through it all, Steve's mustard seed-sized faith in God guides and sustains him, compelling him to pick himself up each time he gets knocked down-and keep walking.
