This book is about today's critical social issues in American society. The issues themselves relate to broad-based categories as healthcare, lifestyle changes, and medicine. There are also categories related to economics, religion, constitutional law and politics. Specifically, one will find chapters on frailty, best foods for specific human body parts, exercise and your body: How your internal organs are affected, kidney disease and the importance of diet and exercise, and some important tips on suppressing your appetite. There are also specific issues on understanding economics and the unemployment rate, and the fiscal cliff and high-income households. Under religion, there are 5 chapters that deal with the psychology and sociology of religious fanaticism including a profile of Islamic terrorism and extremists found in Christianity and Judaism. Finally there are issues related to constitutional law and gay marriage as well as an issue on Sharia Law in America and state-based efforts to eliminate it. Much of the analysis used in this book is based on a concept known as sociological imagination. A sociological imagination is the ability to see things socially and how they interact and influence each other. To have a sociological imagination requires one to "think ourselves away from our daily routines and look at them anew." The actions of people are more important than the acts themselves. It is my fondest hope that imaginative sociological thought has gone into the various topics covered in this book.
