How to Direct Your First Feature Film

Directing a movie is an exhilarating experience. It is fun, creative, rewarding, and especially (insert another positive adjective here). Directing a movie is also time-consuming, draining, tedious, and soul-crushing. Since you are here reading this book, I'm betting you want to do it. That's great! This book is one of many tools to help you along your journey. I have directed a feature film so I write this with first-hand knowledge that can save you time, money, and heartache along the way. The most important thing to know right off the bat is to ignore the nay-sayers out there, and there are a lot of them. Just look at my third sentence above, I was already negative! Screw that guy, right!Making a movie is a hell of a lot of fun- much more than anything else. Movies are the things of dreams, and by being a director, you are making a dream come true. This is a short book and I don't claim to have all the answers, but what I do cover matters. I'll keep it short and sweet without the filler. I'll cover a number of topics you should know about being a director, and some topics you might not think about. Stick with me though, and I promise you will learn something, and if I do my job right, you might be a better director because of it.
