They can't perceive other people's thoughts or do Vulcan mind melds, but from time to time are able to use their special abilities and sense when the truth is being concealed. As the story unfolds, the detectives continuously discover more about the murdered Principal in their quest to solve the crime. The degree of his conniving and the depth of his immorality constantly emerge as the tale progresses.
