What makes this book different from the multitude of other books about Mark Twain? Very simple. I wrote it. I figured if he could write adventure books about me I could write about his adventures. I'm going to tell you about a man who never wanted to grow up. He wanted to be just like me -- a boy, forever. Then the inevitable happened, he grew up -- more or less. He created my friends & myself in his books based on his boyhood friends & memories. Many times during his adult life he digressed & acted like an adolescent himself. He often influenced other adults to act like adolescents also & they joyfully joined him & felt all the better for it -- carefree, full of wishful ideas & an irresistible love for ADVENTURE. This is my true story about that man, my hero, Mark Twain, written in my own words -- or words that I borrowed from him, and that's a powerful lot of words. I am what psychologists call Mark's "alter ego." I'm sort of a conscience that tries to influence how Mark behaves. He led a very interesting life and I was with him the whole way. He accomplished some wonderful things, but he failed at many other things. We will study all of his adventures -- just the way I remember them.
