When Sara McCauley learns that her ex-husband is to be released from prison, she uproots her eight-year-old daughter, Tori, and moves to the neighboring town of Edgemont. The two of them take up residence in the home of Miss Ella Larkin, a semi-invalid whom some believe possesses prophetic powers.
