Being closer to God allows the individual be transformed. "God became man so that man might become god." The Russian Orthodox Church is the largest Orthodox Church in the world. The Ukrainian Catholic Church is the largest Eastern Catholic Church in the world. These two Slavic Byzantine Churches through the analysis of the writings of their theologians both share a common understanding. The work examines the theological understandings of Slavic Byzantines prior to the Schism going back to the Church Fathers to the present day on the teachings concerning union and deification. The author shows that both Churches have moved to an understanding of salvation is based upon Palamite theology which is based on Fathers like St. Ignatius and St. Irenaeus an is faithful to the dogmatic traditions of both Churches.
