The Ghosts Of Berger Estate: And The Mystery Of The Crying Child

Long ago in faraway times, the fierce and fearsome pirate, Captain Billy Berger, pillaged and plundered his way into a grand fortune. This done, he partnered up with his tamer little brother, Gustov Berger, and together they parlayed the pirate's booty into an immense fortune including land, investments and (of course) what was left of the original treasure, tons of gold and jewels. Not being fond of the idea of dying, the two brothers decided not to 'go to their reward' but instead, to stick around and help out their needy descendants. Writing a death-binding agreement which enlisted the aid of future family ghosts, they challenged their pitiful progeny to 'Find the Treasure' thereby solving all their problems and living happily ever after. But the treasure is not easily found. It's modern times and spring, and by invitation only, two very different families are notified that they can come to the estate and seek their fortune. But it's a competition not a joint effort, so the race for riches is on. While the adults are busy digging holes and looking for clues, eleven year old cousins, Billy Berger and Freddy Smyth, and their two friends from the farm next door, set out on their own double quest - find the treasure and get rich, and, just as important, figure out who the little girl ghost is and why she cries. The kids have the edge because, unlike the grownups, they can see and talk to the ghosts of their dead ancestors. Their disadvantage is that some of the ghosts are as determined as they can be not to help. In fact, some are seriously trying to kill them.
