Abandoned as a baby by her biological mother, Truce Williams is rescued from a dumpster and welcomed into a new family. Her name, inspired by the word truce, represents a treaty of peace between the warring crime family who find her. Despite what society thinks about her newfound kin, Truce is loved and welcomed. She finds support and acts as a link in her community between two major mob organizations. She is raised by strong role models, including her grandfather and mother, both part of the civil rights movement, and her father, head of the Chicago-based black mafia.
