Cassandra - 9781535112086

Michael Freeman is in love with the idea of being in love. He's an idealist and a spiritual seeker, but he does not seek religion. Ideally, he will find a girl like himself who loves love and sees beyond the dimensions of this life, who will understand him and allow him to love her as much as he wants her to love him. Then, one night he sees Cassandra. The two of them come together in a love relationship that all of us secretly dream of. Its range and complexity are far, far deeper than mere attraction or romantic serendipity. No, this flower grew from a seed sewn eons ago. Michael and Cassandra adore each other, believe in meditation, spiritual karma and the adjustable, unpredictable quirks of fate. Together they create an ideal, serene life in a lodge at the base of the Smoky Mountains. A pregnancy follows- and so does a celebratory hike. But when the worst happens, when Cassandra slips and falls on the trail and loses the baby, all of their idealism and fairy tale adoration falls out of the clouds. She and Michael must confront the true meaning of suffering and the realities of living in a less-than-ideal world. Devastated, Cassandra and Michael live on, recovering emotionally as best they can. Somehow they know that Stephanie's death was a seed of its own, a planned event. And true to the nature of karma, a wonderful healing thing happens: the novel that Michael has been working on for six years, Almost A Star, becomes a commercial success. But there is a darkness ahead that neither of them sees coming; it's the kind of storm that none of us ever sees coming and yet, know is inevitable. Cassandra is a novel about Love, about visions and past lives, and about two extraordinary people you're sure to have met at some time in your life. Or might have even been yourself.
