Nick Watson is a lead homicide investigator wise beyond his years. At twenty-seven years old, he's the youngest detective to ever hold his job. But after serving for only a short time, he feels much older than twenty-seven, he drinks too much and takes failures at work personally. But with a serial killer on the loose and unsolved homicides piling up every day, who could fault him? Nick is married to Beth and they have two kids, but ever since the murders started happening, he rarely sees them. He believes the killer has connections to law enforcement and no one in the department will even consider the possibility. So as a last resort, he is forced to seek unconventional help from outside the department, but in doing so, he puts himself and others in grave danger. Nick doesn't realize it, but the killer is always near, always watching his every move, studying his tactics, and anticipating his thoughts. As Nick gets closer and closer to the killer's identity, the killer strikes back in a very personal way that changes Nick forever: as Nick closes in on the killer, the killer makes a move.
