Yasmin: The 9 Year Old Girl Who Escaped Torture and Took her Family from Misery to Bliss This book talks about a young girl named Yasmin from Iraq. She lost her parents in the Persian Gulf War in 2003. Yasmin not only lost everything overnight, but also had to take the responsibility of her three younger brothers and one younger sister. Even as a child Yasmin learnt to be responsible as she struggled every day to accept what life suddenly unfolded before her. She went through difficult times and started selling different things on the streets and cleaning houses as a maid. Despite all her difficulties, she continued going to school. Even as a young girl, her sense of duty intertwined with perseverance and determination to beat the odds can only be regarded as her forte. Yasmin and her siblings were later adopted by a young couple, Kevin and Sarah. They took them to London in 2009 and now at age 23, she lives in London with her siblings living a good life and now she is attending college.
