Alexander Harper was born in Trumbull County, Ohio on August 10, 1847. He was the son of Fleming Harper. Alexander Harper and his father later moved to Clark County, Indiana. In 1864, Alexander Harper enlisted in the Confederate Army, serving in Company I of the 12th Tennessee Calvary. He later enlisted under the name of John Harden in the Union Army, serving in Company K of the 66th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment. In 1881, he married Alice Waterbury. Alexander Harper passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1912.
