Before my visit, the thing that struck me most about The Republic of North Cyprus (TRNC) is that there are few travel guides to tell it like it really is. To experience a country on your own gives you freedom, but you can miss many sights without inside information. There is a lot of history in this crossroads of the Med, a country only about the same size as Cornwall in the UK. The book is partially a diary, but includes facts, figures, history, extra research and input from locals, to give you the best ideas of what to expect on your visit. Because the British were here for 85 years and left in 1963, TRNC has a wonderful feel of having been frozen in time. Driving on the left, stopping at familiar traffic lights, seeking out the old telephone boxes and buses, and seeing vintage speed cameras (which are switched off if the electricity bill isn't paid on time), all help with that feel. The exchange rates are still very good, with food and drink being of high quality and low price. Everyone speaks English too. This version, 'North Cyprus - One Man in a Grey Bus' is identical to the third edition of 'North Cyprus, One Man in a Bus', except that the photographs are in monochrome to keep the price down.
