Wisdom in Darkness, the first book in what will be the Wisdom Word Chronicles, begins in the village of Lofg in an unnumbered year in the history of the earth. He joins Kalt and two other heroic companions-a fierce but gentle being named Jur and Rhea, a girl Thom's age who is devoted to the Living One. The Living One's teachings are contained in a hallowed item they all seek: the last copy of the Wisdom Word. Thom faces great dangers and wonders never imagined in the world beyond his village, and he quickly learns that the future of humanity itself may well rest in the hands of this unlikely band of heroes.
