The author considers her art to be her child playing. Janet is a colorist and uses color to create the drama called life. Objects in her art are delineated by changes in color. The poetry sometimes becomes mystical as she tries to get closer to God in order to understand him better. She manages to bring the spiritual to everyday situations that even children can understand. She doesn't shy away from issues affecting people in modern times. Janet is a native San Diegan, though some of her ancestors were Native American, Blackfoot and Cherokee. She attributes her use of color in her art to this branch of the family. She has seen radical changes in San Diego and America, and she often writes about them. Her poetry is varied in subject matter, and usually her poems are short and to the point.
