The real Trashy the Bear was found in an illegal dump site on the Hiawatha National Forest by volunteers who were cleaning up the forest. Since then, Trashy has become the mascot of the annual trash collection weekend, held on the Sault Ste. Marie Ranger District, every spring. This year (2017) will mark the 20th anniversary of this event.
