At the beginning of the 20th century, moments before the start of the Bolshevik revolution, a mysterious Archbishop is newly appointed in a little village located on the banks of the great Volga river. He has been delegated to accomplish the impossible: revive the apostolic spirit among the priesthood and the laity of this forgotten place. Uncertainty hangs over the Archbishop's destiny for evil never sleeps and always lurks in the shadows looking for the next victim. Secrecy and betrayal creep within the clergy and the Archbishop has to make a life changing decision. But if the heavens will not answer his prayers, what is he going to do?Beautifully written,The Archbishop by Hieromonk Tihon is a famous book in Russia. Like many other extraordinary books of Orthodoxy, it landed under the steamroller of the communist censorship. Now in its third edition in English, The Archbishop enjoys a favorable welcoming not only by the faithful laity but also by the clergy. - Savatie Bastovoi
