Who said museums weren't sexy? This guide to erotica in the Prado Museum will take you on a tour of some of the most relevant paintings that share the common subject of erotic arousal. I am aware that this is a very broad subject, with many definitions and preconceptions; and that in several cases the erotic aspect in the works may present itself more implicit than explicit. However, and despite the possible limitations and caveats that an endeavour of this nature presents, I am confident that you will enjoy the tour. The selection in this guidebook includes 30 works that are part of the permanent collection of the museum; and the only inclusion criterion was that the painting or sculpture presented erotic associations. You may be surprised at how little our general attitudes towards sex have changed in the last 2000 years. Likewise, you may be surprised at how little erotica has changed too; there really is nothing new under the sun, and it's all been done before.
