Standing In The Sun

I never talked about my father's alcoholism. I told no one about the sexual abuse that happened to me when I was fifteen. I remained silent about my abusive husband. I was nineteen, and my soul was broken in pieces.When I sought healing through my church, I told no one about the spiritual and emotional abuse I endured. I struggled quietly with all the above, until my fourteen-year-old daughter became pregnant. Then, I could no longer perform for others, in my effort to overcome by damaged past. I had to find healing. I had to find a way to discover the dark areas I had pushed deep within me. I had to put the broken pieces of myself back together, in order to find a wholeness that previously was shattered. As I healed, the hollowness of myself developed muscles and became real.
