The major scandals that rocked Enron and WorldCom more than a decade ago; and other rotating circles of leadership crisis across sectors, heightened the quest for emotionally intelligent and responsible leadership. The leadership need in for-profit organizations may be high, but there is a greater leadership crisis in nonprofit organizations (NPOs). This global leadership shortfall in the NPOs which resulted in significant leadership demands made this study crucial. In this qualitative descriptive research, Dr. Emmanuel A. Peter explored the perceptions of the NPO leaders about the value of EI (Emotional Intelligence on leadership strategies in the City of Richmond, Virginia. The study findings revealed that EI was not new to NPO leaders in Richmond. Although not 100% of the participants demonstrated the theoretical and practical perceptions of EI; the overall conclusion about their EI perceptions indicated that substantial percentage of the NPO leaders had EI awareness.
