Imagine an informal Bible study among friends at a kitchen table. They dig through scriptures and share life stories. They share a pot of tea and plate of cookies. They put on their gospel glasses together to view the world from their position in Christ, at the right hand of the Father. The main topic of discussion is the blessing of redemption. What did the blood of Jesus actually accomplish for us today? Can we live a life of victory, a life of praise, even in a world of darkness, doubt and despair? If so, how do we do this? Interspersed throughout the book are stories the author shares about her life in Africa as a missionary kid and young teacher. She attempts to weave the lessons from the scriptures into these true life experiences. The primary motivation for this book was her concern for believers in Jesus who have lost their first joy, and have become discouraged. The hope is that by grounding the readers first in scripture concerning their blessings and freedom from the curse, they can rid their "well" of the boulders that have blocked the flow of the Spirit in their lives. The secondary motivation was to fulfill the requests of family, friends and students for the author to put into print stories she had told them about her life in Africa. If people could fully grasp what it means to be "redeemed from the curse of the law" in all its nuances and flavors, tints and shades, then they would break out of one level of spiritual understanding into a new level of joy and praise in Christian living. We were not intended to remain at one level all of our Christian lives. Growth belongs to living things. We should constantly be evolving into the likeness of the Christ we adore.
