A 100,000 word, eclectic masterpiece of everything the action/adventure lover could hope for! The story begins with John Raintree, a Sioux Indian now a Green Beret in the 7th Cavalry, embroiled in the Korean Conflict. During an incredible act of bravery, he is taken prisoner; with miraculous planning, he leads his fellow prisoners in a takeover of the camp and is awarded the CMH. The story is fiction but, while in Korea, every actual event is completely factual regarding dates, location, military units and weaponry. (This will thrill history & military buffs & weapon enthusiasts and be easy for others to overlook. The traditions and religion of the Oglala Sioux Nation is also detailed interestingly & informatively but is not overbearing or annoying.) Upon discharge, he and a fellow soldier are mistaken for the murderers of an elderly couple. The ensuing fight with police leads to several deaths and Raintree being committed to psychiatric ward where he falls in love with Linda, a nurse who has a 9 year old daughter, Bonny. . Healed and released, a huge conflict erupts between Raintree & Moore, another former Green Beret who has turned to the dark side and is now involved in drug & arms smuggling, mercenary work and murder for hire. A deep hatred develops between the two that puts Raintree's fiancee and her daughter in grave peril. The plot is clever, riveting, full of surprises and positively believable throughout. The evil doers are extremely evil and despicable and Linda and Bonny are virtuous and brave, even when separated. The "High Noon" finish between the two Green Berets is longed for from early on! Will they meet one-on-one? Probably, but it will probably not work out as anticipated. In conclusion, this marvelous work of fiction will leave you satisfied, thrilled, with a warm feeling of love . . . love for one another, for country and love and respect for the forces of good that live within us all.
