Like the sacred bird, I will rise again. We will all rise again, and when we do, I will find you and we will be together. Travel with Vincent and Leena through the history of mankind as they search for one another across time, in this second book of the Puddle Jumper Trilogy. For years, Vincent and Leena communicated through the reflection of a puddle from two different lands and times-Vincent from the Old West and Leena from Celtic England. Everything changed when they vowed to find one another and unknowingly switched places through a time portal. Now they've traveled through the portal once again, but instead of returning home, they've traveled to entirely new places and times. Lost and alone, they hold onto hope and continue to search for one another. Leena soon discovers that she has landed in Port Royal, Jamaica during the Golden Age of Pirates in 1690, where she encounters all-too familiar characters. This time, they are living as pirates, and a group of stalwart slaves of the trans-Atlantic slave trade who are desperate for freedom. Meanwhile, Vincent is in Milan, Italy in 1493 at the apex of the Italian Renaissance, where he meets the mysterious Leonardo da Vinci and the ever-persecuted gypsies, who live on the cusp of banishment. Though they wish only to find each other, once again they meet the reincarnated versions of the friends they have always known, who seem destined to repeat the same mistakes over and over. Faced with more disappointment and grief, Vincent and Leena soon find themselves torn between the possibility of saving their friends from their fates, and the ever-diminishing probability that they will ever find each other again. How many miles and years must they travel, searching, before hope finally gives out?
