Isaac Leon "Buddy" Freed was born into a Jewish family in rural south Texas in the year 1929. He was going to stand out in the crowd no matter what! Buddy made the most of it. His powerful personality caused everyone in the room to stop and take notice. Buddy may have gone through trials and tribulations, but he did it all with his own unique style. The Mensch from Crystal City shows that not all of Buddy's experiences were positive. From the effects of the Great Depression to Buddy's identity as one of the few Jewish boys in a Texas community, he faced hardship and strife. He hoped, however, that his journey would inspire others coping with their own problems. Buddy decided to open up both his heart and his life to show readers the obstacles he overcame and goals he achieved! Buddy lived a long and happy life until the age of eighty-eight. After his death, his wife decided to publish his memoirs and share her husband with the world. Included is a short eulogy from one of Buddy's best friends and an epilogue written by his family.
