This novel is about a mulatto girl named Star White who lives in a place called Glory Town. Star is fifteen, and she's struggling with keeping her virginity and saving herself for marriage. She hangs out with a girl named Marlena that claims to be her friend, but little does she know that Marlena is jealous of her, and tries to keep Star in trouble and constantly belittles her. Star starts to realize that Marlena is not a good friend, and soon starts to cling to a girl that she meets at the Emerald Library named Rainbow, who has her best interest at heart.Star has an overprotective mother who doesn't want her to do anything. Star has so many things that she wants to get but she feels like the strict control of her mother is keeping her away from those things. She feels like she's trapped. Star tries to figure out what she wants to do with her life as she searches deep within herself and discovers that she has a passion for dancing, and decides to try out for the Glory Jewel Dance Squad at Glory High School. She soon realizes that life can be unpredictable. *This book can be read as a stand alone from the other books.
