Shadow and Ash: An epic poem about fictional feral felines

It is 2005 in Saint Louis City when Shadow Stalker is born to his runaway show cat mother, Stormy Willows. He lives the life of a feral tomcat, making kittens and defeating other toms for territory rights. But when his childhood best friend returns with need for new blood in his forest-bound colony, life changes.
Ash is born in the forest at Creve Coeur Lake. Her mother has acted deliberately to cause drama within their community. Their deity, Spirit Bird, meanwhile, watches over her kitties as they struggle. The colony could soon die out if a proper leader does not take over and guide the cats to a healthier lifestyle; otherwise sickness will take over and destroy them all.
A short story of over 7,000 words.
