I remember it so clearly because I've heard it told and retold by my dad all my life as he shared it with others. The memories have been kept alive by telling and re-telling the story. At the time, I was just a 9-year-old kid, born and raised Redondo Beach, Ca. I'm a preacher's kid who married a Sailor...talk about culture shock! I began a career as a Drug and Alcohol counselor in 1992 and spent 30 years in that field. I've listened to stories of despair and trauma told by my patients and I've heard a lot from damaged, hurting people that I wish I didn't know, and this much I've learned for sure: We need God in our lives.
