This is not a "How-To" sales book! If you are looking for that, there are many other books by fine authors for you to choose from. It's a "How-To-Be-A-Successful-Person in Sales" book! There are literally millions of ways to get all the knowledgeyou need to successfully not fall on your face in front of a customer or prospect. Knowledge is good and I highly recommend it, but there is a vast gulf between knowledge (having the facts) and wisdom (applying those facts to your sales life). You can amass knowledge, as you probably have, but without wisdom, it is practically useless. I am sure you know your fair share of very smart, financially successful, albeit morally hopeless and broken people. I just pray that you don't find that person in the mirror like I did. As one of my many mentors told me years ago after a particularly stupid mistake, "You must learn how to live out what you already know." The purpose of this book is to teach you how to attain sales wisdom, along with a successful sales career and life, and howto do what is right, just, and fair. In short, it is about how to apply the wisdom of your predecessors to your daily sales lifeand to provide moral instruction. That's right, I said moral instruction. You see, a salesperson has a unique gift, and just like the gift of being a free American, it comes with responsibility. The ability to convince, persuade, cajole, and influence others to do your bidding can, and does, get many people in trouble, in all sorts of ways. You will earn a lot of money over your career. A lot! My intention is to prepare you for what's to come your way and how to avoid the pitfalls. One more thing. Obviously, given the title, many of the topics have been inspired by Proverbs from the Bible. This may come as a surprise but, in America and in most advanced countries, there is no law preventing the Judea-Christian value system from having a visible role in daily business dealings. In fact, good morals and values are actually good for business. I also realize that the mere mention of the Bible has, for some, made your stomach turn. I truly understand. I know you better than you think. This book is definitely for you! The key theme of the following passages is based around this first truth. For your situation to get better, YOU must get better. Not better than me, which would be too difficult. (I'm just kidding, by the way. I don't think that line will make it through the editing process anyway.) Not better than anyone in particular, just for you to become a little better today than you were yesterday and a little better tomorrow than you are today. Ok, that is enough to wet your whistle. If you are still with me, I'm glad. Welcome aboard the success train and here's to a long and fruitful sales career!Your Fellow Proud Salesperson, The Deej
