Is this simply a book of short stories, or is it something more? As you traverse through the labyrinth of its unmarked pages, shifting from dreams and waking life and all that's in-between, are these separate entities, or are they all connected? That there is a pulsing, slithering link that is weaving through the multi-colored tapestry of it. Somehow a thread that sows together the likes of a monstrous creature called the Star Collector who huddles in her cave reliving lost memories, of a faceless man named Mr. Sunshine who is in charge of running the reality of the world, and of William Mason who seemingly has the ghost of Abraham Lincoln in his head who won't stop bothering him. Appearing throughout the dreaming, the waking, and the living, is a lonely, melancholy girl who somehow seems apart from those found in the rest of the stories, and her best friend, a talking and monocle-wearing giant octopus. Encircling it all is the eponymous serpent, whose endless journey of devouring herself bleeds through the stories and pages. Take the journey as what you will, for no matter what anyone sees or feels or thinks, in the end it's all the same...for the serpent keeps destroying herself nonetheless.
