Originally published in the "Island Times," this collection of articles is authored by lifelong fisherman and former boat salesman, Leo Carrasco. Written between 2002-2004, Leo recounts humorous and inspiring tales of life on the water. Leo Carrasco was born in 1943 and raised in the Rio Grande Valley, TX. Much of Leo's life was spent in the family restaurant business, helping to run the various Palmetto Inn locations. However, every chance Leo had, he would be at the beach or on the water fishing. Eventually, he worked at as a boat salesman, maximizing his knowledge of the sea. Some of his family's favorite memories were on the water or watching him launch a boat he crafted himself. Let's just say there are many wallets left at the bottom of ponds and soggy clothes to show for his boat carpentry skills. Luckily he's more skilled as a fisherman than in the engineering science of buoyancy. Whether fishing with his brothers, sons or daughters, it was always a family event. He never once minded being out-fished by his children. However, his brothers were a different matter. Friendly competition is a generous description of fishing between brothers. Leo is not a pastor serving in the United Methodist Church. These articles were written while he was a boat salesman, just prior to answering his call to ministry.
