The Social Anxiety Epidemic SOCIAL ANXIETY ruins millions of people's lives annually; it steals joy, happiness and life. All of this leads to major depression, then medication which only chemically alters your brain synapses to ignore the real problem: YOUR THOUGHTS. Young and older people suffer from this debilitating thinking problem. You are probably familiar with that tinge of unease that shoots down your spine whenever you're in new environments. Maybe your heartbeat quickens when you take to the stage and present to an audience. Well, public speaking and meeting strangers may not be a walk in the park, but it doesn't inhibit well-adjusted people, WHY? But for a person who suffers from social anxiety, social engagements elicit too much fear that they cannot even function. People with this condition actively shun all social engagements. And if for some reason they end up in a social atmosphere, then they'll engage in avoidance behaviors like daydreaming and refusing to talk to others. Just about anything has the potential to cause them panic. Some of the instances that may elicit distress include: receiving a phone call, answering the door, answering a question in class, walking out alone, going to new places, eating out in public restaurants, and making friends. But what makes them like this? Along with social and environmental factors, genetics also play a role in the development of social anxiety disorder. If one of their parents battled the condition then they're likely to suffer as well. Another factor that plays a key role in the development of social anxiety disorder is their life experiences. A person who has had nothing but negative experiences is likely to develop a social anxiety disorder. If a person had a traumatic childhood, for instance, if they were abused by their parents, then they are at great risk of developing this disorder. Perfectionists also are susceptible to social anxiety disorder, as do people with a history of mental illnesses. Worry is the biggest give away that someone is battling this condition. Also, they are very self-conscious. They may start comparing themselves to others and then developing inferiority feelings. Another classic trait of an anxious person lies in their irritability. A person battling social anxiety is likely to have no social life. And studies show that women are more likely to suffer from social anxiety than men. Social anxiety gnaws slowly at your life and before you know it you're in a point of crisis. Having social anxiety is always a bad thing because it hinders you from taking actions that would take your life forward. The truth is that there's help out there, but the most important step is to admit that you are suffering from social anxiety and ask for help. There are very effective treatment methods that report high numbers of success. But the saddest thing about social anxiety disorder is the stigma around it and other mental illnesses. However, as the numbers of mentally ill people look up, there's going to be great sensitization around the subject of mental illnesses. Nobody is too far from the reach of social anxiety This book presents all the material that there is about social anxiety. You will learn its causes, symptoms, and treatments.
