The Jewish Spirituality Of Service : Giving Back Rather Than Giving In!

There is undoubtedly much fear in our society today. The world over, many people are troubled by the decline of civility and respect. Social norms that were once thought sacrosanct are changing precipitously due to the ease of technological communication and the rise of a fractured media landscape. Our attitudes can either be to stop this hurried change (which would be futile) or to embrace every new phenomenon that emerges (which would be irrational). The tension between these views molds our normative dealings with the world. With these challenges in mind, Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yanklowitz surveys the best of contemporary and ancient Jewish & secular sources of wisdom that are essential for this historical moment. Throughout the course of "The Jewish Spirituality of Service," Rav Shmuly describes the ways by which we can live courageously in dialogue with originality and change. Further, readers will explore the delicate processes of separating the holy from the unholy, the just from the unjust, and those elements which promote or hinder the advancement of a good society. None of this work is simple. It requires continual learning, spiritual training, the cultivation of virtue, intellectual meticulousness, resilience, and trusting relationships. And throughout "The Jewish Spirituality of Service," readers will explore those greater forces to gain a spiritual and religious blueprint for how we can always give back without ever giving in!
