The Last Continent is a diary of an immigrant's journey back to the very roots of the present which lie in the fractured and turbulent history of divided India. It takes up the experience of a Bengali youngman who moved to India because of the partition of Bengal in nineteen, forty- seven. With the passing of time, he migrated to another three continents in search of a better future. Narrative tells the tremendous adaptibility of that youngman as far as settling on foreign soil is concerned. It also establishes the dexterity with which the Indians, down the ages, have migrated to different parts of the globe and made their second homes in far off countries. Although the book is autobiographical, but historical events, actions of politics, and socio-economic pictures are also a part of the diary. The author deals not only with past of his own family but also narrates his own life as a refugee. It is an interesting account of any immigrant's life who has to fight the odds in order to carve out a place for himself in an alien land and learn to live amidst strange people.
