Alone and Isolated is an amazingly written book showing how perceptions of albinism continue to lead people with albinism to be ritually killed because there is a perception that they have magic powers which work if they are removed while they are still alive. Khanyisile is a beautiful young girl who lives with albinism and was rejected by her maternal relatives because of her condition. When she became a teenager she tried reaching out to her maternal relatives to try and bring the families together. Things turn ugly when her uncle is convinced by the traditional healer that she was brought by the ancestors to him and it was his opportunity to turn his fortune around. He had the ambition to become the Mayor of the village and he was not going to miss this opportunity at any cost even if it meant sacrificing his own flesh and blood. The police, the politicians, the traditional healer and some community member believe that she was a curse which needed to be removed until the religious leader and some villagers helped her to survive this ordeal. It also became clear to her that she was on her own in this fight and had to fight fire with fire with the help of one police woman who have been through hell at the hands of the villagers herself. The book challenges the many unfounded myths about albinism and it will challenge the readers ignorance and create dialogue.
