Why I wrote this book The purpose of this story is to teach children CPR knowledge, while hoping to also relieve their fear should they witness someone experiencing such an event. The story was inspired by a friend's husband who had a heart attack when their son was about Johnny's age. He has a history of smoking. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the #1 killer of both men and women. The most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease. Having high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, or a history of smoking are key risk factors for heart disease. Approximately half of adult Americans have one of these risk factors.
