Love and lost chances, innocence and scars. Enchantments and adventure. Freedom and silence. Magic spells and bloodied keys. The Wistful Wild offers a wide selection of poetry inspired by fairy tales and myths, both well- and lesser known, inspecting them through multifaceted lenses. Drawing on versions old and new, the authors explore narrative choice, the perspectives of oft-overlooked side characters, and the nature of stories themselves. Some celebrate love, whether platonic, familial, and romantic. Others warn of its potential dangers. At its heart, this poetry book is about women's experiences in fairy tales and all their permutations: wild, wicked, wondrous; sweet, scarred, satisfied; forgotten, found, forged; maiden, mother, crone. In other words, women of longing and ferocity.
