The end of May approaches, and college is done for the spring semester. DJ plans to spend the summer reflecting on his traumatic childhood and trying to heal with relaxation. It isn't until his very close friend invites him to go with them for a getaway at their hometown's Pride party to live it up for the weekend. To help him feel comfortable, he invites his only family; his sister, Sierra.

At first, DJ enjoys making new friends and getting involved with the community. His tensions and anxieties melt away with the drag shows and brunches that lead up to the block party. Cardinal Rules takes elements from '80s and '90s slasher horror, filled with blood, gore, and a little glitter. It's time to put pride back in murder!
