Sixth grade is finally over, and Annie is off to camp with her best friend Jay. After everything that happened last year, Annie's looking forward to a relaxing summer. A little swimming and hiking sounds like a nice break from standing up to bullies and, you know, saving the world. Unfortunately for Annie, it's not that simple. When they get to camp, Annie and Jay meet a girl named Ruth who's dealing with some pretty serious stuff at home. They'd like to help her, but Ruth doesn't seem to want to be helped. On top of that, there's something very strange happening in Bibylonia. Everywhere Annie goes, things aren't as they should be. After the Battle of the Meadow, everything seemed to return to normal, but now whenever Annie visits, she spends all her time traveling from settlement to settlement, putting things right. Sure, that's what she's always done in Bibylonia - she is their hero, after all. But it's not the usual problem-solving she's doing now; helping a dragon get his teddy bear back or waking up the town clock-keeper from a magical sleep. It's more like?everything is falling apart, one village at a time. Annie has no idea why it's happening, and the Lady is, as usual, mysteriously silent. As Ruth's situation gets progressively worse, so does the situation in Bibylonia. Will Annie be able to solve the mystery of its unraveling in time to save it AND help keep her new friend's life from falling apart? It's a pretty big job for a not-quite twelve-year-old girl, but as Annie has learned (the hard way), ordinary girls can do extraordinary things.
