Yuupurnju: A Warlpiri song cycle documents a suite of songs within the traditional kurdiji "shield" ceremony, as sung by Warlpiri Elder Henry Cooke Anderson Jakamarra at Lajamanu, Northern Territory, in 2013. The song cycle relates to a Jukurrpa Dreaming narrative, about a group of ancestral women on a journey across the country from Kanakurlangu to the Napperby Creek area. The songs are not currently regularly performed and Jakamarra was one of the few people who still knew them. He wanted the songs recorded and documented for the Warlpiri community and for the wider public to learn about Warlpiri culture. Yuupurnju: A Warlpiri song cycle includes: a foreword by two senior custodians, Jerry Patrick Jangala OAM, and Wanta Jampijinpa the verses written in Warlpiri with rhythmic notation interpretations of the songs in English as given by the singer, Jakamarra, and Warlpiri Elders Jerry Patrick Jangala OAM, Wanta Stephen Patrick Pawu-Kurlpurlurnu Jampijinpa and Steven Dixon Japanangka information about Warlpiri music, kinship, Country and a map of significant places related to the Yuupurnju song cycle full-colour photographs and illustrations for each song QR codes to listen to the audio of each song.
