Where Evil Reigns

Dizzy spells and blackouts are part of Muriel's London childhood. So is her mother's demonic hatred, and trouble with her teachers at school. But Muriel has other feelings too - of icy dread - which tell her someone is about to die. It's ESP, and it's more of a curse than a blessing, especially in wartime... Marriage to artistic Jack ('But he's a bloody Jew!' is her mother's acid response) brings undreamt-of happiness. But in 1945 Jack gets called up, and is sent to India, where the heat will surely harm his delicate health. Again, Muriel gets that icy feeling...Will she ever see Jack alive again? The last part of this revelatory life story concerns Muriel's desperate fight for justice on Jack's behalf, and her battle with secrecy and cover-ups relating to both the 1946 airmen's mutiny in India, and the exact nature of Jack's fate. It's a shocking and salutary tale, from a woman whose determination and spirit know no bounds.
